When Coach Tanner Sewell founded Northern Virginia Wrestling Club in 2015 he saw a gap in the wrestling experience in the DMV region. He wanted to create an independent facility where anyone student wrestler could train, regardless of school affiliation or geographic location.
NOVA began as a group of eight wrestlers training in the James Madison High School gym. From the beginning we have taught around the principle that wrestling is a transformational vehicle. We believe that the sport is a means to upward mobility in life, and its benefits extend far beyond the mat. If training is leveraged in the right way we know that it can change hearts and minds. At NOVA Wrestling we want each of our athletes to compete to the best of his or her ability, but we also want to see them grow as a individuals.
Since 2015 the club has grown exponentially. We have over 200 wrestlers, a professional coaching staff and the only dedicated independent wrestling space in Fairfax County. We are invested in our community, and are proud to teach kids from all walks of life. We take pride in the professionalism of our training and the dedication of our coaches. Most of all we value the strengths that each student brings to our club.
